Fort Worth's motto is "Where the West Begins," and the city lives up to it with a historic stockyards district just a few miles from renowned art museums and a busy downtown. Explore Fort Worth homes for sale below, from historic houses near the city center to newer communities on the north, west and south sides.
Nicknamed Cowtown, Fort Worth is the county seat of Tarrant County, and the city also extends into Denton, Johnson, Parker and Wise counties. The Trinity River winds through town, and the Trinity Trails system follows its banks with paths for walking, running, cycling and horseback riding. Downtown, Sundance Square is a hub for dining and entertainment, and Bass Performance Hall hosts symphony, opera, ballet and touring Broadway productions.
The Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District features the Fort Worth Herd's twice-daily longhorn cattle drive, rodeos at Cowtown Coliseum and live country music at Billy Bob's Texas. West of downtown, the Cultural District brings together the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Each winter, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo fills the Will Rogers Memorial Center and Dickies Arena. Other favorites include the Fort Worth Zoo, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, where bison roam the prairie on the city's northwest side. Lake Worth and Benbrook Lake offer boating and fishing close to town.
Interstates 20, 30 and 35W all pass through Fort Worth, and Loop 820 serves as the city's beltway. The Chisholm Trail Parkway toll road runs southwest from near downtown toward Cleburne. TEXRail connects downtown with DFW International Airport, and the Trinity Railway Express offers commuter service to downtown Dallas. I-30 leads east to neighboring Arlington.
South of downtown, the Fairmount/Southside Historic District preserves an early 20th-century streetcar suburb full of bungalows and other homes from that era, while nearby Ryan Place includes Elizabeth Boulevard, the city's first designated historic district. West of downtown, neighborhoods such as Arlington Heights offer established, tree-lined streets close to the Cultural District. Downtown and the Near Southside add lofts, condos and townhomes, and newer master-planned communities continue to take shape in far north Fort Worth and along the city's western and southern edges. Fort Worth ISD serves most of the city, though some areas are assigned to districts such as Keller, Northwest and Crowley ISDs; verify the district for each address and research schools independently. Our guide to getting ready to buy covers the first steps.
