Stretching from the I-30 corridor in the north to the shores of Joe Pool Lake in the south, Grand Prairie offers a central Mid-Cities location with a surprising amount of lake and park land. Search Grand Prairie homes for sale below, from older neighborhoods near Main Street to newer communities close to the water.
Grand Prairie crosses several county lines. The city lies in Dallas and Tarrant counties, its southern reaches extend into Ellis County, and a small piece touches Johnson County. Because of that, the appraisal district and taxing entities for a home depend on its exact location, so it's worth understanding Texas property taxes and other ownership costs before you make an offer.
The city also has deep aviation roots. During World War II, North American Aviation built P-51 Mustangs and B-24 Liberators at a plant here, and aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin and Airbus Helicopters still operate in Grand Prairie today.
Joe Pool Lake is the city's big outdoor draw. Lynn Creek Park, on the northwest shore, offers a swimming beach, boat ramps and picnic areas, while Loyd Park has campsites, lakefront cabins and trails. In the center of town, the EpicCentral complex includes the Epic Waters indoor waterpark, the PlayGrand Adventures inclusive playground and The Epic recreation center, all set around a large park with lakes and walking paths. Lone Star Park hosts live horse racing, Traders Village has been running its weekend flea market since 1973, and the Texas Trust CU Theatre brings concerts and shows to town. Shoppers head to Grand Prairie Premium Outlets near I-20 and State Highway 360.
Grand Prairie has strong highway access in every direction. Interstate 30 crosses the north part of the city and Interstate 20 runs through the south. On the west side of town, the President George Bush Turnpike (State Highway 161) is the main north-south route, and State Highway 360 runs along the western edge near the Arlington line. Pioneer Parkway, Main Street (State Highway 180) and Belt Line Road handle much of the local traffic, and DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field are both within easy driving distance.
North and central Grand Prairie include many established neighborhoods with homes dating from the mid-20th century onward. Farther south, newer master-planned communities and lake-area homes have been built near Joe Pool Lake and along the city's border with Midlothian and Mansfield. Grand Prairie ISD serves most of the city, but some neighborhoods are assigned to Arlington, Mansfield, Midlothian, Cedar Hill or Irving ISD. Confirm the district for any address and research schools directly.
